Mayura BalasubramanianCEO and Founder
Having grown up on a rich dose of traditional and contemporary arts and crafts, Mayura is a self proclaimed cultural junkie who’s tried her hand at most things creative!
An MBA graduate from the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad,she has grassroots level exposure to India’s rich cultural heritage from handling a national craft and culture based rural tourism project with UNDP India, spread across 36 villages in 20 states.
She has proven experience across the entire handicrafts value chain from sourcing, grassroots capacity building, and design development to improving operational efficiency and enabling marketing across multiple channels.
Mayura has over 14 years of experience spanning Corporate, Development and Education sectors. She is a recipient of NABARD’s Social Entrepreneur Fellowship as part of their Rural Innovations Fund, 2013-14.
Her vision is for citizens and corporates alike to extend the concept of “Make in India” to promote and preserve everything that’s handmade in India.
Aparna PaiMarketing manager
With an MBA in marketing, Aparna has experience in brand building and communications in varied fields ranging from Healthcare to QSR (Quick service restaurants). In pure serendipity style, running into Mayura at a performing arts festival resulted in her joining Craftizen.
Aparna manages Craftizen’s marketing, events and merchandise.
In her spare time she enjoys making upcycled décor items, baking and travelling.
An alumna of the Indian Institute of Crafts and Design (IICD) Jaipur, Naziya specializes in combining various crafts techniques with upcycling.
Born and raised in Udaipur- the city of lakes, Naziya grew up exposed to the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan and is as an aficionado of the delicious Bohri cuisine.
Since childhood Naziya has been making gifts from discard materials; what was earlier an idea to cut costs on raw materials later turned into social consciousness regarding the environment.
At Craftizen, Naziya works on design development and training of beneficiaries and trainers in upcycling of a wide range of discard materials.
Pragya SharmaProgram manager,Hyderabad
Pragya embarked on her journey of becoming a social scientist when she chose to pursue her Masters in Women’s Studies from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).
Through the course, she developed a keen interest in social development of women, more so to do with economic advancement and poverty alleviation.Her first work stint was with the Government of Andhra Pradesh where she worked on a neo age initiative of taking traditional artisans of an entire state online to provide a platform for an end to end e-commerce operation.
At Craftizen, she is managing our centre in Hyderabad where we are working with women from underprivileged backgrounds as well as traditional artisans on long term livelihood programs
She loves food, travel and above all world peace!
AN ChandanLocal co-ordinator - Urban
Chandan has completed his master’s in social work specializing in community development and HRM from St. Joseph’s College, Bengaluru. He has experience interning with NGOs like Action Aid, APD, Voice of Needy Foundation, Greenpeace International and Center of Environment Education amongst others.
He is the urban local coordinator at Craftizen, liaisoning with our NGO partners in Bangalore to provide support and hand-holding on skill training, production planning and project implementation.
He loves exploring new cultures through travel, music and street photography and views life through a philosophical bent of mind.
DhanalakshmiAdmin and accounts co-ordinator
Dhanalakshmi has done her MBA in HR and Finance and manages Craftizen’s finances and admin.She has over 2 years experience as an accountant in the development sector and has handled multiple project accounts in her previous organizations.
She is silent dynamite of the team!
Mohan LMLocal co-ordinator - Rural
Mohan holds a Master’s in social work and at Craftizen he is the rural local coordinator.He is stationed at our NGO partner premises in Doddaballapura and provides support and hand-holding on skill training, production planning and project implementation for the Green Skilling program.
He is a very sincere and hardworking individual. In his leisure time he performs in a Dollu Kunitha troupe which is a popular drum dance of Karnataka.
Nikita JainDesign consultant
Nikita studied Interdisciplinary Design at Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology and majored in Heritage conservation, Education & Play Design.
For the past 5 years she has been working as a freelance designer with many diverse organizations.
At Craftizen, Nikita has been involved with several design projects including tollu bommalata (leather craft) of Andhra Pradesh and recycling flowers into a range of unique products.
In her spare time she loves travelling to new places- wandering, sketching and collecting stories.
Antara BuzarbaruahMarketing intern
Having done her masters in Sociology, Antara is quite intrigued by the intersections of the different elements in society. Before joining Craftizen, she worked with women’s organisation for three years.
Her hobbies involve painting, reading books, swimming,attempting DIY work and lately she has been doing pottery that she considers therapeutic. She believes her hobbies brought her to Craftizen.
Sanjana HiremathIntern for all seasons
Sanjana is a final year Bachelor of Commerce student at St. Joseph College Bangalore. She is the Social Media intern at Craftizen. A trained Bharathanatyam dancer and a poetic soul.
Sanjana is always eager to learn about the various ways in which the Indian Craft sector can improve lives and contribute towards it.
